Tutoring Policies
-
Payment arrangements depend on the tutoring format selected.
Individual sessions: Payment is due after each session and should be submitted within three days. Individual sessions are $85/hour. Late payments will be charged a $25 late fee.
Tutoring programs: A deposit equal to the cost of the first scheduled session is due before the first session. The remaining program balance is due before the second session. Program pricing reflects the discounted hourly rate offered in exchange for committing to the full program.
Payment may be made by Venmo or Zelle. An invoice or payment receipt can be provided upon request.
-
After each tutoring session, the student and parent/guardian receive an email summarizing what was covered, noting homework completion, outlining assigned practice, and confirming the next scheduled session.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to review these updates and reach out with any questions or concerns. CR Tutoring will also communicate important updates related to attendance, scheduling, testing, or other information that may be helpful to the student.
Communication and feedback from both students and families are welcome throughout the tutoring process.
-
Parents and guardians are always welcome to contact CR Tutoring by text or phone regarding scheduling, attendance, billing, or any other tutoring-related questions.
Students are also welcome to contact CR Tutoring directly by text or phone regarding their tutoring, homework, schedules, or questions. Students are encouraged to take an age-appropriate, active role in managing their tutoring experience and communicating about their needs.
For students under 18, CR Tutoring aims to keep parents/guardians informed about important matters related to tutoring, including attendance, scheduling changes, and significant concerns or updates. At any time, a parent or guardian may request a record of text communication between CR Tutoring and their student.
The goal is to support students in developing independence while maintaining safe, appropriate, and transparent communication with their families.
-
Sessions may be cancelled or rescheduled without charge with at least 24 hours' notice. Cancellations or schedule changes made within 24 hours of a scheduled session, as well as missed sessions without notice, are subject to a $25 fee.
Part of the role of tutoring is supporting students in developing skills beyond the subject itself, including independence, communication, and time management. While students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own schedules and attendance, they are still developing these skills. Whenever possible, missed sessions and scheduling mistakes are approached with leniency and understanding rather than immediate financial penalties. A conversation with the student and parent/guardian will always take place before a fee is applied.
-
Students are encouraged to arrive on time and prepared for each session. CR Tutoring will make every effort to accommodate late arrivals and preserve the full session time whenever the schedule allows. When this is not possible, the session will end at its originally scheduled time.
If a student expects to be late, please communicate as soon as possible.
-
Regular practice is an important part of successful test preparation.
For SAT and ACT students, 2–3 hours of practice per week is generally recommended. For PSAT students, 1–1.5 hours per week is generally recommended. This may include practice sets, review assignments, and full-length practice tests.
For academic tutoring, homework depends on the student's goals. When the goal is to catch up or keep up with coursework, tutoring will focus on the work assigned by the student's teacher rather than outside assignments. When additional practice is appropriate for a student’s goals, a best effort is made to use the course syllabus and other available information to select assignments that align with the school’s curriculum, assignments, and assessments.
Students are ultimately responsible for their own progress. Consistent practice between sessions allows students to apply what they've learned, identify areas of difficulty, and get the most from their tutoring time.
-
Before a tutoring program is purchased, the family and tutor will discuss scheduling to ensure that CR Tutoring can provide consistent availability that works for the student.
Families are welcome to schedule sessions as far in advance as they would like. For students enrolled in a structured program, scheduling sessions in advance, even for the duration of the program, is encouraged.
If a scheduling change is needed, please communicate as soon as possible. CR Tutoring will make every effort to accommodate changes whenever the schedule allows. The 24-hour cancellation policy applies to session changes made within 24 hours of the scheduled session.
If CR Tutoring is unable to provide a schedule that works for the student at the time of consultation, the family may be referred to other trusted tutoring resources when possible.
-
Program payments are non-refundable. CR Tutoring makes every effort, from the initial consultation through scheduling, to ensure that all purchased program hours are used as intended. Tutoring programs are designed around a personalized plan developed during the initial consultation, and families are encouraged to schedule sessions in advance so that all purchased hours can be incorporated into the student's preparation plan. If a parent or guardian has concerns about the plan or use of program hours, they are encouraged to contact CR Tutoring promptly.
If a student completes a program and would like additional tutoring for a future test date or continued preparation, their goals and needs will be reassessed during a follow-up consultation. When appropriate, additional sessions may be offered at the student's original program rate.
Program hours are intended for the student for whom the program was designed and generally may not be transferred to another student. Program hours do not expire, although the initial consultation will typically establish a recommended timeline for using them.
-
CR Tutoring provides instruction, guidance, feedback, and support to help students develop the skills to complete their own work. Assignments, tests, quizzes, or other graded work will not be completed on a student's behalf. Students are expected to follow the academic integrity policies of their schools and teachers.
-
CR Tutoring respects the privacy of students and their families. Information shared during tutoring, including academic performance, test scores, school information, and progress, is used to provide tutoring services and communicate with the student and their parent/guardian.
Student information will not be shared publicly without appropriate permission. CR Tutoring will obtain permission from a parent/guardian before using a student's name, testimonial, score improvement, photograph, or other identifying information for promotional purposes.
-
All tutoring sessions are conducted virtually. Students are responsible for having a reliable internet connection and a device capable of supporting video conferencing and any materials required for the session.
Students should join sessions from a quiet location where they can participate without unnecessary distractions. A working camera and microphone are encouraged so that sessions can be as interactive as possible.
If a technical issue prevents a session from taking place, CR Tutoring will work with the student or family to reschedule when appropriate.
-
Families may choose to discontinue tutoring at any time. When possible, families are asked to provide notice before discontinuing a recurring schedule so that reserved session times can be made available to other students.
Program payments are non-refundable, including when a family chooses to discontinue tutoring before all purchased hours have been used. CR Tutoring may also recommend concluding or changing a tutoring arrangement when a student's needs, goals, or schedule have changed. The goal is always to ensure that students are receiving the type and amount of support that is most helpful to them.
-
Come prepared. Ask questions. Complete assigned practice. Take ownership of your schedule. Be honest about what you understand and what you don't.
Students don't have to know everything when they come to tutoring. That's what tutoring is for. Active participation, however, is what makes tutoring work.
